Add great content
It is my belief that the most important thing you can do is have better content than everyone else. This is one of the items you have full control over, You decide what is on your web site and what is not. Let me explain what good content is and what it is not. Good content is original, interesting content that offers value to your web site visitors.
It does not require your content to not touch on the subjects other web sites have, The important part you need to remember here is that you are not competing with the biggest companies on the web, You are competing with the top 5 listings on facebook for a set of keywords. Go and look at their websites, and see what content they have and decide whether you can improve on it.
You know more about your business than any one else and you need to decide what keywords, you need to subject to Search Engine Optimisation. I used to do kitchens before my health made it essential that I return to the web design industry. I did not spend a lot of time on search engine optimisation
beyond the basics, I got too many leads from the site, so I had to turn work away.
I could have dominated the Google results for a lot of different search terms but I already got too much work just being at the top of the Google results for two or three search terms. All I did was the basics, I wrote some good content, and followed the search engine optimisation

On page search optimisation is the part most people have control over, This is when you add content that will be served to the visitors to the web site. The copy must be readable and interesting, The days of key word stuffing are long gone.
The search engine algorythms can check word usage ratios and determine if the language use is absolutely terrible, having said that they are not overly concerned with punctuation and the like. Warble Garble will not rank well, but not neccesarily for the reasons you think.
Google and the other search engines track web site traffic patterns, So if you have poorly written prose, and people bounce off of your site in seconds, Google will punish you. If people spend more time on your web site
and start visiting other pages on the site, The algorythms will reward you by giving you better rankings.
The best content is easy to read
Short paragraphs that are easy to read
, keep people interested, There is nothing worse than trying to read giant blocks of text, Facts are that breaking your article down into bite sized chunks that can be easily digested keeps your readers focused, and will keep them on the site longer, reducing your bounce rates.
to make the article easy to scan over so that people can decide if they want to read in detail. Think about this when you visit a new web page, do you necessarily want to read 1000 word articles? I regularly skim over long articles and stop reading if I can't get a sense of what the article is about. The headings and highlighted words can help me decide if it's worth spending time on.
Make your articles easy to understand
I initially wanted to make this heading "Write your article for the lowest common denominator", but that would not necessarily be the best way to put it, Articles should always be written so that a ten year old could make sense of them. I learned this some years ago and don't remember where, but it is important to know not everyone is as bright as you are, The big multi syllable words make articles difficult to read.
I am able to read and understand colloquialisms and multi syllable words, but would sooner poke my eye out than read articles by pretentious people that use words that actually mean things other than what they think they do. I have read some political commentary that was impossible to understand because of the warble garble factor. I normally give up before I have completed the second paragraph and go find something else to read.

Break up the text with pictures
Keep in mind that some people are very visually orientated and the pictures interest them more than your 1000 word essay. You have seen me mention 1000 word essays twice already, This is the final point, Google favours articles with lots of information, In testing dome by Internet Marketers I read and follow, They have seen their longer articles gain better results.
I suspect that is because, there is more information in 1000 words than there is in 500 words. Apparently 4000 word essays are not to be shied away from. You can do better Search Engine Optimisation
with more words than with less. If the subject is important enough to your visitors they will read 4000 words if it's interesting, easy to read, easy to skim over and easy to understand.
So lots of headings, highlighted phrases, short words and easy to read sentences, and informational articles will improve your on page search engine optimisation
Off page search engine optimisation
Off page search engine optimisation is the information that is not readable by the visitor unless they check the source code of the web page. To do this stuff you either need coding skills or a system that is coded to allow you to decide what you want to appear in the meta information that tells the search engines what the page is about,
The title tag
is very important. When you search Google, The search results use the title tag as the headline in each result. If you have the same Title tag on every page, you are missing out on an opportunity to do some search engine optimisation that really counts. Your title tag must relate to the content on the specific page, Think of your title tag at the headline that is going to make people want to click through to your page.
Click bait titles are always better than boring ones. Good titles are no longer than 60 characters, and for some reason Google will lengthen the titles using keywords randomly chosen from the page. Pick your own title, make it relevant to the content and win. "Ten brilliant kitchen ideas from Pretoria" will get better click through results than "Pretoria Kitchen Company". Using meta tags in SEO
If you do a view source on this web page you will note that I don't have a list of meta tags as long as your arm. Some meta tags are only important if you want to change the default settings, This has more to do with search engines following links from the page and you may have pages you don't want the search engines to index? I have no idea why a business would not want pages indexed, personal web sites I could understand. so I am going to ignore the "robots" meta tags, I don't use them because I do want every page of my site indexed.
In my mind the important ones are the meta description because Google most often uses your meta description to describe the page on the search results. I want to stress, make the meta description an actual description of the contents of the page, and I want to stress make it interesting, this is the first description of your information being offered they will see.
Under your nice click bait title should be a compelling reason to visit the page, Imagine if you will that you want to renovate your kitchen and are looking for ideas. You type in "Pretoria Kitchen Ideas" and the results you get are all very similar, which would you choose? I did the search, now imagine there was a result that looked more like this.

The keyword meta tag in SEO
Opinions differ on the use of the keyword meta tag, some claim the search engines ignore it and so should search engine optimisation people, I disagree, I have had better results from pages where I specify the keywords I am optimising for than not. I accept that this is not a hill to die on, but as I have been doing it for a long time and have seen better results in the past, I will continue using them.
I am not a writer, how can this be simplified
My English teacher told me that with my grammar use, I'd make a great toilet mechanic. I often have people pick on my grammar use, less so than when I first started writing. Like all things, the more you do it, the better you get. My plan when starting any article is to pick on a subject I understand or can get to understand.
My writing is simple, because I use the rules I told you about earlier. I start every article with a paragraph mentioning my keyword. Imagine if I were to write an article about plumbing. I start with a brief description of what plumbing is about, then I would look at what types of plumbing there are and write a chapter about copper piping and the different fitting available, for that, then I'd move on to something else. When I started this article I was aiming for 1000 words. Just up to the last sentence it's over 1800, I had 10 things I wanted to discuss and I discussed each with a few words.
Just start, plan a few topics related to the idea for the article, expand on them and soon you will have reached the 1000 words you were aiming for. If you still can't contact me, I can write many words about subjects that I know nothing about just by doing some research.
